Jaws Is Your Champion!
The shark might not have worked, but it managed to take home the top prize in our Steven Spielberg Bracket Challenge.
Jaws has been crowned the winner of our Steven Spielberg Bracket Challenge. It may seem anti-climactic for the number one seed to cruise to the crown, but it had to put down vaunted classics like Schindler’s List and even Raiders Of The Lost Ark to claim the championship.
Frankly, this erstwhile tourney has been a blast to coordinate with all of you. The discussions that arose from the matchups have been superb. I’ve loved hearing from you on your personal favorites, emotional attachments, and blindspots in the filmography of America’s most esteemed and commercially successful director.
Would you all be interested in doing more tourney style challenges like this? We could focus on films of a genre or a decade. The AFI Top 100 List or the Best Picture winners could also be fodder for future brackets. Maybe we should tackle an actor, or another director. Alfred Hitchcock springs to mind, but I would love to hear from you.
This approach could extend beyond film and work its way into the world of music as well. We could tackle the best college rock albums or the best record from a given year or decade. I don’t want this to become a space for hokey polls and no other meaningful content, but I do see this as a way to generate more discussion, and expand the reach of our collective community.
Thanks again for being a part of this thing, and for your comments on how it might be done again in the near future.
Cheers,
Matty C
I thought this was fun, and would participate again for sure!
This was super fun, Matty C. Here's a pitch for a new bracket challenge: a music one about favorite bands of the 90s. Maybe just favorite American bands? Although there needs to be at least 32 bands for a good bracket. So maybe all 90s bands? US/Canada/UK/Australia/Ireland? Matty B
