I think it's a better film, to be honest.

I'm also astonished Invasion of the Body Snatchers is beating A.I. Artificial Intelligence. I love both, but Invasion of the Body Snatchers always struck me as more horror than sci-fi.

There are some doozy pairings coming in future weeks. It’s interesting that Repo Man is in there. It’s a favorite, but I wonder if it’s sci-fi enough.

To me, Brazil is the best on the wider list. Don’t think it’ll get far though.

Much as I love it, I'm glad Star Wars appears to be absent (I've always thought of it as fantasy, not sci-fi).

Anyway, the winner should be Blade Runner or 2001: A Space Odyssey. I don't mind which. Personally, I'd vote for the latter.

Both Star Wars (A New Hope) and The Empire Strikes Back are actually there.

Oh, really? I must have missed that.

To be clear: I absolutely love Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back more than I can express in words. But I just don't consider them sci-fi. I know a lot of people do, but not me. :)

2001 is so slow and boring. A total snooze fest.

That’s one opinion. Mine is that it’s the greatest science fiction film ever made. I’ve seen it countless times since first encountering it at 13 and I find it mesmerising. Slow doesn’t necessarily mean boring. However, there ought to be a law against watching it on television. It demands to be seen on a screen the size of the Sahara.
