Bracket Challenge: The Greatest Sci-Fi Film Of All Time (Round Two - Part Three)
We have now hit the back half of the second round. These matchups are getting awfully sweaty.
Before we get rolling, I want to say thank you to all of you who have been so supportive and kind during my recent brief hiatus away from WAIM. I cannot thank you enough for your kindness, advice, wisdom, and patience during this incredibly challenging stretch. Thank you so very much.
On to the bracket.
The first half of round two action has been littered with science fiction classics embroiled in tight, bitter contests. Before we head to the back half of the bracket, let’s take a look at our results from last week’s matchups.
#5 TheMatrix defeated #20 Inception
#12 Children Of Men lost to #44 Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978)
#13 The Thing defeated #45 Robocop
#4 Alien defeated #29 Ex Machina
In the first matchup last week, we saw a battle of twenty-first century titans as The Matrix cruised to a relatively easy defeat of the weighty Inception. The 1978 remake of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers pulled off the tourney’s biggest upset so far with a narrow defeat of Children of Men.
The Thing managed to stave off the hardened exterior of Robocop in another close matchup, while Alien ran roughshod over Ex Machina in our final contest of the week.
Here is where the bracket stands as we hit the back half of round two.
This week’s combatants feature a suburban Dad making mountains of his mashed potatoes, a young farm boy on the verge of finding his destiny, a lovable android with a penchant for musicals, a pack of sociopathic ne’er-do-wells, a pair of Spielberg classics, and we’ll even throw in a couple of animal mutants for good measure.
Let’s head to the matchups.
Voting will remain open until September 10 at midnight. Let’s get to those ballot boxes.
Cheers,
Matty C
Be sure to let us know how you voted and why in the comments below. We’d love to hear you plug your picks for the films that should comprise our sweet sixteen.

#009 Six Questions with Hannah Carlson
Welcome back to Six Questions With Matty C. It’s a simple short-form interview show from the fine folks at What Am I Making.
Not much chance of any of my picks winning through this week… all the underdogs! Still, I voted with my heart and didn’t let any notions of the ‘obvious & popular’ faves sway me! *brundlefly~gojira~wally~and ah, me droogs & a bit’a Ludwig van!
I'd definitely have voted for Inception over The Matrix. Oh, well...
