Who Is Your Favorite Regional/Local Band?
This past weekend I was reminded of the sheer mass of talent out there in the underground. For the last 30 years I have seen so many great local bands. Who is the favorite from your neck of the woods?
On the upcoming episode of WAIM Radio, I am going to be sharing 16 of my favorite songs by bands that I have shared the stage with. This hour was a blast to put together, but it was tough to narrow it down to sixty minutes. In my three decades playing shows, I have seen a ton of great regional live music. Some of the best nights of my life have been spent in sweaty dive bars watching unknown artists tear it up for a half-empty room. They might be small shows, but these are big talents.
Who is a favorite band from your area that should have made it but never did? Do you have any latter day Nuggets in your region? We’re doling out bonus points if you personally know anyone in a genuinely good band that you listen to because they’re good and not just your friends’ band.
Tell us all about the hit singles from your neighborhood we never got to hear. Include links in the comments, if you are able to find them, to allow folks to check out as much stuff as possible. If we can pool enough good suggestions together, I’d love to craft a Volume Two of this concept in the future with the readers supplying the songs.
So, tell us all about the band from your town that should’ve been huge. Share the story of the local band that made you fall in love with live music. I can’t wait to hear all about it.
Bbe sure to tune in Friday live at Noon Eastern on Suburbs Radioto hear the show live. New episodes are also archived here at WAIM each Tuesday. Feel free to go back and listen to any of our episodes at any time in the WAIM Radio archive.

Rad Zak and the Chumps from Suffern, NY! I knew 3/5 of the members in high school - great guys, they make some really fun, well-produced basement punk
Black in the late 90s/early 2000's there was a band out of Grand Rapids, Michigan called Thunder Chicken. They were always a fun show. I still have their CD and a shirt I bought at a concert.
Here in Dallas, The Ottoman Turks are a great cowpunk band. Same with The Vandoliers.
