It’s impossible for me to hear ‘Layla’ by Derek & The Dominoes without thinking of the iconic sequence it soundtracks in Martin Scorcese’s Goodfellas. The song has ceased to be its own entity, and has become forever entwined with a montage of settled scores and bloodied bodies left in the wake of Robert DeNiro’s Jimmy Conrad. It’s a brilliant use of music to underscore a transitional sequence in a film.
On the next episode of WAIM Radio we take a trip to the movies. This week, we’re exploring great musical moments in cinema. What is your favorite use of rock and roll or pop music being used in a film? What's your best case example of rock music elevating a sequence to great heights?
Share your suggestions and your criteria for a great cover below. I can’t wait to hear all about it.
Cheers,
