What Is Your Favorite Jam From The Year It Was Supposed To All Crash?

This week at WAIM Radio, we look back forty years at the world Orwell warned us of, and the music that came in its wake. It's 1984 this week on WAIM. What is your favorite song from that year?

The summer of 1984 was a bittersweet time for Matty C. I turned 12 that Memorial Day weekend. I’d managed to survive sixth grade, and my Little League team was pretty good. My beloved Detroit Tigers got off to a record setting 35-5 start in the first 40 games, virtually assuring them of a pennant. And to top things off, I’d also managed to land my first kiss. Then, my parents came in to crush my dreams and told me we were moving.

Music and my Tigers were what got me through that rough summer. I eventually made new friends and those new relationships often revolved around music that I either loved or was being exposed to for the first time.

Top 40 Radio was chock-a-block with massive hits from artists like Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Bruce Springsteen. I loved those artists and so many more on the charts. But I was also falling in love with weird bands I heard from the neighbor kid’s older brother, and dabbling in odd worlds like post-punk, goth and synth-pop that I saw on MT…
