Tour Diary: Minneapolis, MN
My time in the Twin Cities included a Replacements' pilgrimage, the home of a hero, and the glory of connections.
I pulled out of
’s driveway in the middle of a Friday morning in Madison, WI. The sun beat down brightly on the Buick Encore as I began my drive westward towards Minneapolis and my home for the night, the Driftwood Char Bar. I cradled my travel mug of coffee, rolled the window down a shade, and turned up the stereo as I hit the highway.By early afternoon, I found myself approaching the Twin Cities. With no discernible plan and hours to kill, I stopped in St. Paul for a quick pilgrimage. I made my way to a nice, but nondescript row house on Summit Avenue. The neighborhood is green, lush, well appointed, and littered with the homes of the upper middle class and wealthy. This particular house at 599 Summit was the childhood home of the great American writer, F. Scott Fitzgerald.
