Tour Diary: Lawrence, KS and Ames, IA
On the slow road home I found old friends, safe spaces, and the home of midwest of BBQ.
The morning was cold, gray, and terribly windy when I awoke on Wednesday in Grand Island, Nebraska. I was still pinching myself from the marvelous gig the night before at the Liederkranz Supper Club. As I walked out in to the kitchen, I found my host Matt and his English Pointer, Penny standing in the kitchen just finishing the fixings for a pot of coffee. Matt wished me a good morning, and we chatted while the coffee brewed.
Matt and I discussed the evening we had just put together at the Liederkranz and we talked about a couple of the upcoming shows that he has in the works. At the moment, Matt and Ele are hosting somewhere between 20 and 25 shows a year at the Liederkranz, or their house. In many ways they are the epicenter of this burgeoning movement in a very small town. It felt great to spend time …
