R.E.M. Win The Best Band Of The 1990's Bracket Challenge
The Athens, Georgia quartet emerged victorious after a neck and neck final with Seattle legends, Nirvana.
What began as a field of 32 bands has been whittled to one reigning champion. Ladies and gentlemen, R.E.M. are the winners of your Best Band Of The 1990’s Bracket Challenge.
For the most part, the tournament went chalk as the expected seeds advanced almost universally. Upstarts, Guided By Voices did unseat Radiohead in the quarterfinals for the tourney’s most shocking upset. Soundgarden taking out Pavement in the round of sixteen was also something of a surprise.
In the end, not even Nirvana and the heft of their sophomore slab, Nevermind could unseat R.E.M. from the crown. While that is a great record, the champions offered a bevy of great albums, seminal songs and enough staying power to live up to their number one overall seed.
Thanks to all of you who voted, commented, shared and subscribed during this tourney. It’s been a huge success and we can’t wait to do it again very soon. What should our next Bracket Challenge be?
Cheers,
Matty C
As it should be...
With all the great music that came out of the 90’s, it’s a little sad that REM was the best band. I guess nobody dominated the decade. I can live with the results, but I feel a bit disappointed, know what I’m sayin?
