WAIM Radio #038 - Boy About Town
This week on WAIM Radio we're making a trip into town. Need anything?
As a kid I used to love to while away summer days on my bike riding up and down the two main streets of the small town that was the whole of my world. I had a portable radio that we bungeed to the handlebars of my bike and by the age of nine or ten, I was cruising the neighborhood cranking Billy Joel, Bob Seger, Pat Benatar and whatever else seemed cool at the moment.
In our tween years, the world is capped by how far you can ride your bike, and the soundtrack was nearly as important as the journey itself. Long before the days of mp3 players and Spotify, we dialed in a frequency and listened for hours at a time. I can remember riding up to the local record store/arcade, Players, to buy a record and heard the new Duran Duran single on my radio while pedaling up to the shop. I eventually wound up purchasing a vinyl copy of Seven & The Ragged Tiger with my lawn mowing money. It was the first long player I ever paid my own money for and radio had led the way.
This week on WAIM Radio, we’re headed into town. Maybe we’ll make the trip on our bikes or ride facing backwards in the back of the wagon, but we’re making the journey come hell or high-water. Do you need anything?
This week we have classic country, sad LA junk pop, second wave mod, twee from down under, and even a dash of rude boy. I took this week’s theme literally and every track on the list features a tune with the word town in the title.
What would you add to the hour? Do you have a favorite that I played on this week’s show? Maybe you have an idea for a theme for a future show. Tell us all about it.
You can listen to the full show in the player above. Also be sure to check out the full tracklist to see everything that made the show.
Cheers,

Hey Matty. Home yet?
Just wondering (too lazy to look it up) ... when Thin Lizzy recorded "The Boys are Back in Town" was Gary Moore one of their guitarists?
