Bracket Challenge: Greatest American Comedy Series - Round One (Part Three)
Round one rolls on with a fresh quartet of contests as we inch our way closer to the crown.
Welcome back to the Bracket Challenge, my friends. We find ourselves halfway through the first round, and the matchups have already been hot. Before we dive in to this week’s contests, let’s take a quick look at the results from our most recent set of matchups.
I Love Lucy, the show that truly changed the face of TV managed a strong showing over the gang from Paddy’s Pub to cruise to a first round victory. Our second matchup was a see-saw contest that went back and forth much of the week with The Golden Girls coming out the eventual winner over Garry Handling and The Larry Sanders Show.
Curb Your Enthusiasm ran away with a win over Bob’s Burgers in a contest I had expected to be a tighter race. And in our final contest, Seinfeld pummeled What We Do In The Shadows and the vampire set on Staten Island.
With the first half of our round one matchups completed, here is how the bracket looks as we begin action today.
Each of the first two rounds will feature four matchups each week. As we get closer to the finals, we’ll focus on fewer matchups in each installment until we crown the eventual winner. You’ll have a full week to get your votes in before the polls close.
This week’s entrants feature four conventional nuclear families, all with their own set of dysfunctions and quirks. Three of those series helped to blaze a trail for new conversations on race, class, and what it means to be an American. We also get to see the inside world of high stakes politics, and we get to spend some time with a pair of quasi-families brought together by their shared work.
Polls close at midnight on Thursday, Oct. 3. Get to your polling stations, my friends. Polls close at midnight eastern on Friday, Sept. 20. Let’s get to the matchups.
Cheers,
Matty C
The Jeffersons vs. Veep is a tough one! I'm curious to see how close that race winds up being.
Okay, I'm metaphorically marching with a protest sign: "There is nowhere in the metaverse where The Jeffersons is better than Veep."
